Grange Community Project Launch

Grange Grow and Share Project

The Grange Grow and Share project is officially launching on Thursday 27th July, 2017. The launch will be held in Grangeway Community Centre from 12pm -1pm.

Grange Grow and Share is a community project based in Grangeway Community Centre. The project allows local community members to take ownership and responsibility for planting and growing fresh produce. The aim of the project is to bring community members together to grow produce, which can then be shared out in to the Grangeway community for residents to enjoy for free. The project also aims to alleviate social isolation in the area, and provide residents with free healthy produce, and a place they can go to invest in a hobby. Gardening is scientifically proven to improve physical health and wellbeing; it’s a great way to get regular, enjoyable outdoor exercise, and is a therapeutic way of tackling stress.

The project has been set up by Halton Housing working in partnership with Halton Borough Council’s Health and Wellbeing Team, Runcorn Veterans, and local community members. For several weeks, the collaborative working partners have been getting the project up and running and ready for communal use by installing raised beds, cleaning up the area, starting the initial growing, and attending gardening courses.

The Launch Day

The launch day will be an action-packed afternoon of fun for Grangeway residents. Attendees will be able to: explore the new communal garden, learn about gardening, take part in fun activities, and can express interest in taking ownership of one of the raised beds. The community members who take responsibility for a raised bed must keep it well maintained, and only use it for growing plants or vegetables that can be distributed amongst the community.

Grange Grow and Share is a pilot project, which if proven successful with local residents will expand to other areas in Halton. Other areas which are under consideration for Grow and Share projects are: West Bank, Widnes and Pine Road, Runcorn.
