Trust searches for a charity

CHARITIES in Halton are being offered the chance of support from one of the area’s leading providers of affordable homes.

Halton Housing Trust is looking to develop a 12 month working relationship with a locally based charity whose work benefits the wider community throughout 2012.

Vikki Mack, who leads on the Trust’s charitable work at Halton Housing Trust, said: “The chosen charity for 2012 will benefit from our fundraising efforts as well as the expertise and skills of Trust employees.

“Supporting a charity brings us even closer to the community and we are looking for an organisation with which to form a strong and lasting partnership across Runcorn and Widnes”.

Since 2006 the Trust’s support for charities has totalled over £155,000.

Support has ranged from fundraising activities to Trust employees undertaking building and improvement works.

One of the charities to have benefitted from the Trust’s previous support was Norton Priory Museum and Gardens.  It received more than £30,000 of support, which included the refurbishment of the main gallery, café and reception as well as the fixing of lights and improvements to plumbing.

A year ago Trust employees voted to support Halton Haven Hospice and the Citizens Advice Bureau and have since raised more than £5,000 through sponsored activities.  The Trust are about to embark upon a ‘Changing Rooms’ inspired overhaul of the Hospice’s Offices.

Nick Atkin, Chief Executive at Halton Housing Trust, said: “One of our goals is to play a supportive role within the community and choosing a charity each year is a way of achieving this.

“We are a business with a social conscience and are keen to play our part and support local causes, even more so during these tough economic times.”

A shortlist of charities who have expressed an interest is drawn up.  These are then considered by the Trust’s employees who vote for who they want to support in the year ahead.

Any charities who are interested, should contact Vikki Mack on 0151 510 5106 or email vikki.mack@haltonhousing.org in the first instance and prepare a short submission about why they should be selected and how the two organisations can work together.

The deadline for submissions is 24th February 2012
