Trust nets top marks for offering students great ‘work experience’

HALTON Housing Trust has been honoured for its dedication to supporting young people in the borough.

They scooped both the Work Experience and Ambassador honours at Halton Borough Council’s Employer Awards Ceremony, marking their contribution to supporting youth employment and work experience in the borough.

“Young people are the future for this Borough so we believe it is our role to provide opportunities for them wherever possible,” said Chief Executive Nick Atkin.

“I’m very proud that our efforts have been recognised and we will continue to do all we can to support young people across Halton.”

Each year the Trust offers places to a number of work experience students in a bid to give them their first taste of working life.

Trust employees provide a varied and interesting schedule during their stay ensuring it provides the students with a fulfilling opportunity that stands them in good stead for the future.

Also rewarded for their individual efforts at giving students worthwhile ‘work experience’ at the Trust were Michelle Phillips and Ted Scholefield.

They were two of five people presented with an ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’ for their ‘dedication to the development of Halton’s young people.’

Michelle, a Customer Involvement Officer at the Trust, said: “I wasn’t offered work experience when I was at school, but I think I would have benefitted from it.

“I can now fully appreciate how valuable it is so I always try and make it a good experience for the young people.”

The awards were held at the CRMZ youth centre on Thursday (May 26). Winners of the individual awards were presented with pieces of artwork created by students of Halton.

“We appreciate the value and importance of work experience at the Trust so it is humbling that our efforts as both an organisation and as individuals have been recognised,” said Ted, the ICT Trainer with the Trust.
