IMPROVEMENTS to homes in Runcorn and Widnes will include enough new fencing to stretch all the way to Halifax.

Halton Housing Trust has launched a £6.7million project to improve the appearance of thousands of its homes over the next five years.

“The programme is the next major refurbishment project for the Trust within the borough,” said project manager Nick Sorfleet.

“We will be installing around 47 miles of new boundary fencing to more than 6,000 of the Trust’s properties in 26 estates.

“It is designed to improve the safety and privacy of our customers’ homes.”

The project follows on from the Trust’s recent £85million Decent Homes improvement programme which saw it replace thousands of windows, kitchens and bathrooms at its properties, more than a year ahead of schedule.

Nick added: “Throughout the development of this programme we have talked to our customers to ensure that the Trust delivers the improvements that they both want and need.

“Customer consultation and engagement is a key priority for the Trust.”

In July the Trust held a consultation event at the Stobart Stadium, in Widnes, where customers played a key part in the design, styles and colours of fencing to be used.
