14/12/2009 - Developer announced for brownfield transformation

HALTON Housing Trust has named the company it has chosen to complete the multi-million pound redevelopment of a brownfield site in Widnes.

Bramall Construction has won a £1.6 million contract to build 12 two-bedroom apartments and six bungalows at Clarke Gardens.

Work on the site is set to begin in mid-January and is expected to be completed in around nine months.

Neil McGrath, Director of Resources at Halton Housing Trust, said: “These are exciting times for the area. This is a major construction project that will improve the lives of many people in the local community.”

The redevelopment scheme will help provide much-needed affordable housing in Widnes and transform the empty brownfield site, which was the former home of an unpopular bedsit scheme.

Merseyside-based Bramall Construction is part of the Keepmoat Group which operates across northern and central England, and is a specialist in developing new buildings for the social housing sector.

The company has already completed one major project with Halton Housing Trust, carrying out part of its £85 million programme to improve thousands of homes across Runcorn and Widnes.

Neil added: “We’re delighted to be working with Bramall Construction. The company has already worked with the Trust on a very successful improvement project for our homes, which finished a year ahead of its target date.”

Steve Parrington, Bramall Construction’s Construction Director, said: “We’re pleased to have been awarded this contract which allows us to continue working with Halton Housing Trust.

“We have a great working relationship with Halton Housing Trust and we’re really pleased to get our first new build programme with them.

“Bramall Construction has worked with Halton Housing Trust for nearly five years in refurbishment. This project will allow us to deliver more homes that are eco efficient and we’re also improving disabled access in certain properties, to ensure we cater for everyone’s needs.”
