AN ENVIRONMENTAL task force from Halton Housing Trust will be out and about on the estates where their customers live during an annual clean up day on Tuesday 7th August.
As part of the Trust’s on-going commitment to care and maintain for the environment in its local communities, the Trust will be targeting problem areas identified by customers which are in need of an intensive clean-up. Activities will include litter picking, removal of fly-tipping, replacing damaged fencing, landscaping and general tidying up.
A recycling initiative will take place on the Montgommery Road, Clapgate Crescent and Lacey Street estates in Widnes and on the Grange estate in Runcorn. A minimum of 18 eight tonne skips will be provided for residents to dispose of wood, glass and green waste. Local residents will also be encouraged to recycle any unwanted household items.
A garage site next to Bancroft Road shops, in Widnes which has been a constant eye sore for local residents, will be cleaned up and the broken fencing fixed. Fencing will also be replaced at Russell Road shops in Runcorn, to make the environment in the area more attractive.
Families housed at the Grangeway Court homeless scheme in Runcorn will also be joining staff in a planting scheme to spruce up the grounds surrounding the building.
Around 180 of the Trust’s staff will join Trust Chief Executive Nick Atkin and members of the Management Board at locations throughout Runcorn and Widnes. The Trust’s housing investment partners Bramall, Connaught and Bullock will also be lending their weight to the campaign.
Nick Atkin said: “Last year’s event was a huge success, clearing 28 tonnes of rubbish in just one day. This year we want to build on this and have even more of an impact in the communities where our customers live.
“For one day only we will all be swapping our day jobs to go out in force and clean-up local communities, making sure local residents notice a difference. The clean-up day is above and beyond the Trust’s investment programme and is part of our commitment to creating places where people want and choose to live.”
The Trust would like to see its customers get involved, whether it is taking part in the recycling initiative or actually rolling of their sleeves and joining in a tidy up campaign. Safety equipment and litter pickers will be made available for anyone taking part. Anyone interested should contact the Trust’s Involvement Team on 0151 510 5180.
Essential cover for the housing service will be maintained throughout the clean-up day.
