06/12/2007 - Halton Housing Trust donates £1,000 to partner school

HALTON Housing Trust has donated £1,000 in community sponsorship to its adopted school St Chad’s on the Grange estate in Runcorn to fund safety education material for local children.

The interactive information books from the Children’s Safety Education Foundation aim to promote and raise awareness of personal safety, social health and citizenship among school children. The Trust’s donation will go towards purchasing education material for Key Stage Three

Subject areas covered include road safety, drug and alcohol awareness, hate crime, road safety, gas and electricity safety, bullying and road safety.  The overall aim is to reduce the number young people involved in accidents.

As the largest social landlord operating in Runcorn and Widnes, Halton Housing Trust is committed to contributing to the communities it serves. This autumn the Trust strengthened this partnership by adopting St Chad’s High School and forging close links with teachers and children.

Elaine Davies, Citizen Co-ordinator, said: “We are thrilled to receive this generous donation from Halton Housing Trust. The money has been used to purchase interactive educational material that raises awareness of the many dangers young people face in every day life.

“We are also looking forward to the opportunities being Halton Housing’s Trust’s adopted school will bring us in the future. We are looking forward to getting to know more about the Trust and the work it does.”

The donation has come from the Trust’s Community Sponsorship Fund which has set aside £100,000 for local community projects and worthwhile causes over the next four years.

Nick Atkin, Chief Executive of Halton Housing Trust, said: “St Chad’s High School is the first of a number of local organisations that will benefit from our new Community Sponsorship Fund.  As an organisation focussed upon the areas in which we work we felt it was important to support the work of the Children’s Safety Education Foundation our partner school.

“We are also delighted to announce St Chad’s as our adopted school. This will enable the Trust to develop close links with the school and provide a range of educational and vocational training opportunities for the students as well as the Trust being able to understand the aspirations of younger people for future housing services”
