Halton Housing Trust is launching a number of awards on European Neighbours' Day (May 27) for customers who have made a positive contribution to their community.
The awards also recognise "good neighbours" who have acted in a positive way to help other groups and individuals within their community.
Trust customers are currently being urged to nominate their neighbours for the awards, as long as they meet the specified criteria in each category. The deadline for nominations is 1st November 2008 and there is a £100 prize up for grabs.
Nick Atkin, the Chief Executive of Halton Housing Trust said: "The Neighbourhood Awards are a fantastic way of increasing a sense of local pride among our customers, whilst also helping to improve neighbourhoods at the same time.
"Not only do these awards promote good neighbourhood relations and community cohesion but they also encourage our customers to become good neighbours all year round."
The Neighbourhood Awards are divided into four categories - Good Neighbour Award, Community Award, Youth Award and Taking a Stand Award. In order to nominate a good neighbour, customers must first ensure that they meet all the specified criteria in each category.
To win a Good Neighbour award, the customer must demonstrate certain qualities such as a willingness to visit people living alone or in hospital, while offering lifts or assisting neighbours in the community.
The community award is given to individuals or couples who have undertaken outstanding voluntary work for a long period of time as part of a community group or organisation. This might include running a football club, a youth club, a scout club or a social club for the elderly or disabled.
Alternatively, the Youth Award aims to celebrate the achievements of a young person up to the age of 21 and can be in the following areas; volunteering, the environment, carers, the arts, community improvement, outstanding achievement or personal journey.
In addition, the Taking a Stand Award will be selected directly by the Trust and will be presented to a customer who has made a positive stand against anti-social behaviour.
