Halton Housing Trust is gearing up to blitz the streets and improve customers’ quality of life during a week-long “Clean It” campaign which is taking place between Monday 1 September and Friday 5 September.

Helen Bushell, Simon Edge (Head of Stock Investment), Noel Sharpe (Director of Customer Services) and Maureen MacfarlaneThe Trust’s environmental task force will be teaming up again this year with members of the community in its biggest ever clean-up campaign.

The mass litter pick and clean-up demonstrates the Trust’s ongoing commitment towards caring for the environment and targeting hotspots which have previously been identified by customers.

Activities throughout the week will include litter picking, the removal of fly tipping, the replacement of damaged fencing, landscaping, general tidying up and the removal of bulky items.

Following the huge success of last year’s campaign which saw the Trust collect 31 tonnes of rubbish in a day, skips are being placed on Trust estates. Customers’ are encouraged to fill the skips with their bulky household waste for recycling.

Helen Bushell, Chair of Halton Housing Trust’s Customer Services Committee and customer board member, said: “Last year’s event was such a huge success that we managed to clear away 31 tonnes of rubbish in just one day.

“This year we intend the Clean It week to be the biggest and best so far.

“All our staff want to make even more of an impact than we’ve ever done before and we always strive to create places which are pleasant and where people are proud to live.”

The Trust has signed up to Keep Britain Tidy’s Big Tidy Up 2008. The campaign, launched on 1 September, is England’s biggest ever litter tidy – helping communities get together to tidy their patch.

Customer Board Members Helen Bushell and Maureen MacfarlaneHelen Bushell, Chair of Halton Housing Trust’s Customer Services Committee and customer board member, is urging customers to beat the amount donated by staff by bagging up the most second hand clothes for charity as part of a massive recycling drive.

The mass donation is in support of the Bag2TheFuture campaign, which aims to raise money for the Trust’s two local chosen charities Halton Haven Hospice and Runcorn-based Co-awareness.

The Trust will issue customers with a bag on Saturday, August 30 which they can use to donate good-quality second-hand clothes, bedding curtains, soft toys, shoes and handbags.

It is hoped that £300 can be raised per tonne of clothing and other donations made to charity.

Helen said: “Our staff donated a over 60 bags of clothing and soft toys to charity, I’m sure our customers can beat this!”
