24/05/2011 - Sewing seeds for beautiful gardens

IT seems money might grow on trees after all.

Halton Housing Trust has set aside £400 to be shared by the winners of its annual gardening competition.

“Our customers take a lot of care in their homes and gardens and we hope this competition will instil further pride amongst people in their neighbourhoods,” said Noel Sharpe, Director of Customer Services.

“The main purpose of the garden competition is to brighten up neighbourhoods in Runcorn and Widnes and to reward our customers for their efforts.”

Gardens will be judged on how they look by a panel, made up of Trust employees, customers and representatives from Vale Contract Services who will give marks for presentation, colour, condition and imagination.

Prizes will be awarded for best garden, best communal garden, best hanging basket or pot and best garden for new customers who moved in after April 1 2010.

The winners of the best garden, communal garden and new customer garden will each receive £100 prize and the winner of the hanging basket/pot/container and runner up of the best garden category will receive a £50 prize.

The closing date for entries is June 24th.
