Every year about 14 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by gas appliances and flues that have not been properly installed or maintained. Many others also suffer ill health.
When gas does not burn properly, as with other fuels such as coal, wood or oil, excess carbon monoxide is produced, which is poisonous.
You can’t see it. You can’t taste it. You can’t even smell it. But carbon monoxide can kill without warning in just a matter of hours.
You are particularly at risk when you are asleep because you cannot recognise the early symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Please help us to keep you and your family safe and well by allowing us access to your home to complete these vital checks and servicing works.
Sure Maintenance, our gas servicing partner, will write to you annually to schedule a date to visit your home. If you cannot make the appointment please let us know and we will try to reschedule – missed appointments cost us money – money we should be spending elsewhere improving our services.
If you don’t let us know and we turn up, it is called a ‘no access’. We allow three no accesses before we have to take action to gain access to your home. We understand that the date cannot always be met and we will try to accommodate your needs where possible.
Remember - Our responsibility
We are legally responsible for servicing any gas appliances owned and installed by us in your home annually.
Remember - Your responsibility
If you consistently refuse access to your home to complete the servicing you are breaching your tenancy agreement and we can and will take legal action to gain access and/or possession of your home.
Undertaking work on gas appliances yourself could cost you money and your life. If you have had any gas related work to any appliances in your home you must report this to us and provide evidence that the work was carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Failure to do this could lead to a fine or possible legal action against you.
If you have any concerns or want to book a safety check please contact our dedicated Gas Safety Team on 0151 510 5077 or obtain further information visit the gas safety pages on the website.
