Team put on their running shoes for chosen charities

For the third consecutive year the Trust has put together a team to take on the English Half Marathon and raise funds for its two nominated charities.

Chief Executive Nick Atkin, one of the 10 runners taking part, said that “whilst some of the more competitive members of the group are also aiming to improve on their times from last year, their main goal is to raise money for Halton Haven Hospice and Halton CAB,” he said.
Halton Haven Hospice and Halton CAB have previously been selected by the Trust’s employees as their charities for 2011.  Employees recently raised £1,409 taking part in the Hospice’s Twilight Walk.

Now a group – which includes friends and members of the charities – are gearing up for a slightly faster paced challenge on September 18th.

The English Half Marathon takes place in Victoria Park, Warrington, and the Trust has set a fundraising target of £2,000. You can support the runners by donating on their justgiving page www.justgiving.com/haltonhousingtrust2/

This year the event organisers have kindly entered the Trust’s Team into the Corporate Challenge.  This will enable the runners to compete against those form other companies and organisations who are also fielding teams of runners to raise money for their charities.
Entry to the race is available up until race day.  Visit www.English-half.co.uk for more details.

The team has been taking part in training sessions during lunch times, running between the Trust’s offices at Daresbury Point, Runcorn, and Foundry Lane in Widnes.  For anyone watching on the day the team are easily recognised by their high visibility shirts and Halton Housing Trust logo.

Since it was formed in 2006 – when it took ownership of more than 6,000 properties in Runcorn and Widnes – the not-for-profit organisation has provided support worth £150,000 to local charities.
“Our charities for the year deliver fantastic work and positively impact upon the lives of thousands of local people” said Nick Atkin. “We would urge as many people as possible to support us by pledging money to make the pain and the blisters worthwhile!”
