What type of property can I expect to be offered?
Our Meeting Housing Need and Access to Housing Policy sets out the type of property that can be offered to each household. This is usually based on household size.
For example:
|
Household |
Property |
|
A single person with no dependants |
Flat or Maisonette |
|
A couple with no dependants |
2 bed House, Flat or Maisonette |
|
A single person or couple with dependants |
House, Flat or Maisonette |
|
A single person or couple aged 60 or over |
Ground Floor Flat or Bungalow |
If the applicant is under the age of 60 but has a high level of medical need, we will, subject to a medical assessment, consider them for a bungalow.
How do we decide who properties are offered to?
In most circumstances properties will be offered to the person on the housing register who has the highest number of points, taking into account where they wish to live and the type of property they are eligible for.
If two or more people have the same points the property will be offered to the applicant who has been on the register the longest. If both applicants have been on the register for the same length of time, the individual circumstances of each case will be considered.
How many offers will I get?
Once on the housing register we will make you three ‘reasonable’ offers of accommodation. A ‘reasonable’ offer is one that is the right size and type of property to meet your household’s needs and is in an area of your choice.
If you refuse three ‘reasonable’ offers, we will suspend your application for six months and will not make you any further offers during this time.
If you have been awarded medical points and refuse offers that could improve your living conditions or ease your medical condition, the medical points will be removed from your application after two years.
If the Council has a duty to re-house you because you are homeless and in priority need, you will be entitled to one offer only in the town of your choice -Runcorn or Widnes. If you refuse this offer, the Council will no longer have a duty to re-house you and your homelessness points will be removed.
