What is Supported Housing?
Supported Housing provides, good quality, secure and comfortable accommodation for customers who are of, and beyond, retirement age.
Each supported housing scheme has a dedicated Scheme Manager, available during the daytime throughout the week, to provide advice and assistance.
Each bungalow or flat is connected via a Warden Call System to a specialist Contact Centre – providing reassurance, comfort and emergency support when the Scheme Manager is off duty.
This gives the security of having 24 hour emergency cover and assistance available to you, should you need it, from either the Scheme Manager or Community Wardens.
What are the benefits of living in Supported Housing?
• Good quality housing
• Peace of mind for you and your family – knowing that there is support and emergency assistance available, should you need it
• Support based upon your own needs with a personalised support plan
• A variety of social activities which you can participate in when you wish to
• You can keep and enhance your own independence
What activities are available?
Many of the activities and events are suggested and supported by customers living on the Scheme. Scheme Managers are always looking for suggestions and volunteers to help organise the activities.
Regular activities include coffee mornings (and afternoons), bingo and quizzes. There is also a Christmas Party and other special themed events throughout the year.
What will I need to pay for?
When you live in one of our Supported Housing Schemes you will need to be able to pay:
Rent – This is the charge for the flat or bungalow. It includes the cost of managing and maintaining the property and also the communal facilities. If you are in receipt of benefits, state pension or on a low income then you may be entitled to Housing Benefit, which may cover some or all of your rent.
Supported Housing or Supporting People Charge – This charge covers the services that help you maintain your independence in your home including the Scheme Manager, 24 hour emergency cover, and access to and use of the communal facilities. If you do receive Housing Benefit your Supported Housing or Supporting People Charge will be paid in full directly to us.
Heating Charge – on two of our Supported Housing Schemes, Brunswick House and Queens Close, there is also a charge for heating and hot water which is included in the overall charge for the accommodation.
