To help our customers maintain their independence in their home we have launched our free HandyPerson Scheme
What does it involve?
Any customers accepted onto the Scheme will be able to ask us to help with small-scale home improvements such as:
• Erecting a shelf
• Putting up a curtain rail
• Making up flat pack furniture
• Changing plugs and fuses on an appliance
• Unblocking sinks, wash hand basins and baths
• Fitting draught excluders
• Re-securing carpet to stairs to avoid trip hazards
Due to our limited resources we will prioritise applications based on your personal circumstances and we may need to put your request onto a waiting list. We will keep you fully informed of the length of the waiting lists.
Who is eligible for the Scheme?
We will help those we believe to be in greatest need of assistance and will prioritise the services through the Scheme on the following basis:
• Customers over 60 years with a disability
• Customers under 60 but unable to carry out the work due to disability, poor mobility or long term ill health
• Customers under 60, receiving benefits and unable to pay for the service of a skilled contractor
• New customers setting up home for the first time, who have identified some vulnerability
Exclusions
We may exclude customers from the Scheme for the following reasons:
• They have someone aged 18-60 living with them who does not receive some type of disability benefit
• They owe us money, especially rent arrears
• If we have served a notice seeking possession for any reason
• If there is a current Right To Buy / Right to Acquire application
