The first customers have moved into Halton Housing Trust’s new £6 million Barkla Fields supported living development in Widnes.
Located on Dundalk Road, the luxury extra care development for the over 55’s is a mixture of 50 rented, shared ownership and outright sale apartments and six adapted bungalows, as well as a fantastic array of on-site facilities including a bistro, communal lounge, multi-function recreation rooms, office space and landscaped gardens.
The scheme will be officially opened in June with a celebration for all the new customers.
Classed as ‘extra care’ accommodation, Barkla Fields provides high quality housing and support for the over 55’s, allowing them to live independently, but with access to an on-site care/support team as and when their care needs change. Extra care developments also enable older people to enjoy a healthier, active and more independent lifestyle in a community, representing a modern alternative to a traditional care or nursing home.
Halton Housing Trust’s Director of Development, Paul Mullane said: “Building Barkla Fields really has been a labour of love and we’re thrilled that customers can now enjoy this fantastic new facility. We’re particularly excited about the new bistro, the Orange Tree, as it’s open to public and will hopefully attract local people.”
Barkla Fields is the Trust’s second extra care development, joining Naughton Fields on nearby Liverpool Road which opened in 2013.
There are still four apartments left for shared ownership or outright sale and viewings can be arranged through our sales team. For more information or to organise a viewing call Jackie Martin on 07740 422 595.
Barkla Fields customers also have the option to work with the Trust’s own specialist support service for older people, Amethyst Living, where they can receive further support to help them live independently.
