Last week Halton Housing’s Group CEO Nick Atkin signed the Employee Pledge to demonstrate the organisations commitment to mental health.
Time to Change aims to bring mental health up the agenda in the workplace. It encourages organisations to change how they think and act about mental health in the workplace and make sure that who are facing these problems feel supported.
Halton Housing is the first organisation in the borough to commit to the pledge.
The event began with a presentation from the Health and Welbeing Officer, Cheryl Rose-Coulthard and HR Manager Tracy Fairclough, informing staff about mental health awareness in the workplace, followed by Nick Atkin signing the pledge.
Following the presentation, staff could talk to representatives from Time to Change, Halton Borough Council, Adult Learning, Books on prescriptions, Community connectors and Papyrus who all had stalls to provide information around mental health. Halton Borough Council’s Health Improvement Team also promoted mental health training and provided free blood pressure checks.
By signing the Pledge Halton Housing will join a growing movement of more than 700 employers in England across all sectors from FTSE 100 companies and leading retailers to Government departments and local authorities.
Looking after the mental health of employees makes business sense: tackling stigma can make a real difference to sickness absence rates, presenteeism levels, staff wellbeing and productivity, and retention.
