Halton Housing staff took time out of their busy schedules to proudly pledge hours for PlaceShapers We Care Day on Friday 14th September.
We Care Day saw Halton Housing join over 100 community-focused housing associations – around the country pledge time to give something extra back to residents, customers and communities. Over 2000 hours were pledged by PlaceShapers members.
During the day, Halton Housing held a pop-up foodbank to distribute hampers to customers in need, following donations from staff over the last several weeks.
Halton Housing then matched on a one for one basis all of the items donated by staff to double the number of items, allowing even more of its customer to benefit from a hamper.
Halton Housing’s Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, Cheryl McCabe said: “We are much more than a landlord. We have homes that people can afford but also provide services that build communities. We Care is an opportunity for us to highlight the difference that these services make and also for our staff to use their own volunteer time to do even more to help our residents and communities.
For the majority of us, we never have to worry about putting food on the table for our families. We can’t imagine how that must feel for those who find themselves in this position. We hope the food hampers make a real difference to those customers who received them.”
PlaceShapers chair Sinéad Butters said: “Up and down the country We Care Day focuses on the rich diversity of ways that our members care for people and communities. Whilst we take great care in providing high-quality homes that are safe and well maintained, we also focus on the people who live in them, working with them and our wider partners to ensure we provide what’s needed. We Care shows what this means on a day-to-day basis.”
PlaceShapers is a national network of more than 100 community-focused housing associations. Together PlaceShapers members have 850,000 homes and are building 88,000 more homes by 2022.
