As summer comes to an end, we are pleased to announce the winners of the Halton Housing 2019 Digital Gardening Competition.
Sheila and Mark Powell of Russell Road, Runcorn, are the 2019 worthy winners with their amazing colourful, garden. The winners of this years’ competition were chosen by Halton Housing’s Customer Forum.
Mr & Mrs Powell were not planning on entering the Digital Gardening Competition, but their garden stood out to members of the Halton Housing Customer Engagement team and other Halton Housing colleagues on their bi-weekly estate walkabout and they were encouraged to enter. On approaching Sheila and Mark, they were more than happy to show the teams around their beautiful gardens which were amazing.

This years’ winners Mr & Mrs Powell said: “We are a little embarrassed if we’re honest but in a good way! We just love to work in the garden, and we are happy to have been chosen as the winners. We often have people stop by our garden on a regular basis and compliment us on how our gardens look, it is a great feeling”.
The 2019 winners were very pleased to have won and received £30 high-street vouchers which they plan to spend on new solar lighting for their gardens. When Mr Powell was asked if he had any tips for anyone looking to take up gardening, he explained that planning and preparation is the most important. He advised people to start in the month of March with the first grass cut and keep on top of it every couple of weeks if you can.
Debbie Jameson – Customer Engagement Officer said: “We have had some fantastic entries for this year’s Digital Garden Competition, and it has been difficult for our Customer Forum to shortlist them all. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr & Mrs Powell for the dedication they show in keeping their garden in such a fabulous condition. We would also like to thank all those customers that took the time to enter this year’s competition. There are some fabulous gardens on our estates which helps with the social environment whilst making the area a more attractive place to live”.
