Halton Housing is proud to be supporting Gas Safety Week 2019 raising awareness of the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.
Here at Halton Housing, we want to ensure all of our customers are GAS SAFE! It’s best to be gas safe than sorry.
We have a number of activities and initiatives taking place during the week to help raise awareness of gas safety, including quizzes and helpful tips. We will also be sharing real-life gas safe stories and much more.
Here are the top 5 Gas Safety Tips:
1). Have all gas appliances in your property safety checked annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
2). TEST IT! Ensure you check your CO alarms weekly – If you don’t have a CO alarm, purchase one or ask your landlord to provide one.
3). Look out for warning signs that a gas appliance isn’t working properly– lazy yellow flames, excessive condensation and black marks/stains. However, gas appliances can be unsafe without displaying these symptoms, so the best practice is to have them checked every year.
4). Use gas appliances for their intended purposes only, e.g. do not use a cooker to heat a room.
5). Provide enough ventilation for gas appliances to burn correctly and make sure no air vents or chimneys are blocked.
Keep up to date with all of this, and get involved on our Facebook & Twitter pages.
