We have provided a funding boost for ‘Keep Widnes Tidy’, a voluntary litter picking group in Widnes.
The new funding from ourHelping Hands initiative will enable the group to purchasenew equipment, allowing more people to get involved in its activities.
The Helping Hands initiative makes available funding, skills, materials and resources to community projects and groups which benefit the Borough.
Keep Widnes Tidy was set up seven years ago and aims to bring the community together to tidy-up, clean-up and green-up Widnes by organising and carrying out litter picks.
The group also aims to raise awareness of the impact litter has on the environment and the planet by creating cleaner communities.
Debbie Jameson, Customer Engagement Officer at Halton Housing said: “Everybody wants to live in a neighbourhood that is clean and tidy and somewhere to be proud of. We are delighted to support Keep Widnes Tidywho are helping to achieve this.”
Keiron Gordon, founder of ‘Keep Widnes Tidy’ said: “A massive thank you to Halton Housing for providing much-needed funding. Our primary objective is to keep Widnes free from litter and help restore civic pride in our communities. The new funding from Halton Housing will allow us to expand our activities and carry out more litter picking and clean up events in the town.”
Last year, ‘Keep Widnes Tidy’ carried out 45 events and boasts over 40 ‘adopt a street volunteers’ who are dedicated to litter picking their road or areas around where they live.
