Welcome to our five new apprentices

8th September 2020

4 minutes

Following our highly successful apprenticeship recruitment campaign in the summer, we are delighted to welcome five new apprentices.

We welcome Ben (Business Admin Apprentice), Maciej (ICT Apprentice), Daniel (Joinery Apprentice), Rhys (Joinery Apprentice) and Jamie (Electrical Apprentice).

The apprentices will learn the skills needed for specific roles by shadowing colleagues and gaining hands-on experience ‘on the job’. At the same time, they will also be studying for an academic qualification at Riverside College along the way in their relevant discipline. The apprenticeships vary in duration from 16 months to 42 months dependent on the specialism, with the aim being that they lead to permanent roles at Halton Housing.

The new opportunities have been possible thanks to efficiency savings which have been reinvested in the futures of young people in Halton in these challenging times, further underpinning our corporate vision of improving people’s lives.

Meet our new apprentices:

Maciej – ICT Apprentice

Maciej, 19, from Runcorn has worked in a number of customer service positions prior to starting his apprenticeship. Maciej is looking forward to supporting the ICT Team and contributing to new programmes and projects.

Daniel – Joinery Apprentice

Daniel, 23, from Widnes joins us from a data company in Warrington. Prior to this he worked for BT as a sales advisor. A season ticket holder at Liverpool, Daniel is looking forward to starting his career in joinery and getting hands on in the role.

Rhys – Joinery Apprentice

Rhys, 17, from Runcorn is not new to joinery having completed his level 1 in joinery at Riverside College. Rhys is looking forward to gaining experience on the job and applying skills and knowledge learnt at college and putting them into practice.

Jamie – Electrical Apprentice

Jamie, 19, from Widnes recently completed his level 2 in electrical installation at Riverside College while working at Wilkinsons part-time prior to joining Halton Housing. Jamie is looking forward to shadowing one of our qualified electricians working in customers’ homes and gaining experience.

Ben – Business Admin Apprentice (OSUK)

Ben, 18, from Whiston recently completed his A levels at Carmel College, alongside working part-time at McDonalds. Ben will be working with the Open Door (OSUK) team, our commercial subsidiary. Ben is looking forward to starting his career in business and applying some of the skills and knowledge he learned at college.

With initial plans to recruit four apprentices, due to the quality and calibre of the applicants we have offered positions to five young people.

Halton Housing Learning and Development Officer, Karen Lopez said: “As one of the borough’s largest employers, providing local employment and improving people’s lives, we place immense value in investing in people. Apprentices make a vital contribution to our business and these new apprenticeship opportunities will make a real a difference and help launch exciting careers. We are looking forward to seeing our latest apprentices develop and grow into their apprentice roles.”

Helping people back to work and creating new jobs, especially for younger people, is a national priority and Halton Housing is pleased to play our part in supporting the UK’s economic recovery.

The apprentices were appointed following a rigorous recruitment process supported by Riverside College which saw over 265 people applying for the positions.
