Group tackling social isolation and loneliness launches in Widnes

A service that supports people with mental health, social isolation and loneliness has launched community drop-in sessions in Widnes.

Persona Insight (PI) provides a safe community space for Halton residents with the aim of building people’s confidence for a better outlook and positive future.

The group meets weekly and offers attendees the chance to meet new people, create and explore art, helping build self-esteem and confidence alongside other likeminded people all supporting one another.

Launched in Runcorn back in 2019, PI has now started a second weekly meeting in Widnes, based in Nightstop‘s Community Hub ‘The Way Forward’ on Royal Avenue.

Halton Housing supports the Nightstop Hub (which operates on donations) by providing the shop, and a garage for storage purposes. The Nighstop Hub now provides a space for Persona Insights to operate from.

Persona Insight founder, Helen Boyle said: “Our services are designed to complement and blend with services already available to Halton residents. We are ordinary people from all walks of life, trying to live extraordinary lives struggling with the layers of social isolation, effects of losing loved ones, experience of domestic violence abuse and mental health. We are here for those who are struggling, lonely or feeling isolated.”

Halton Housing Customer Engagement Officer, Debbie Jameson said: “Persona Insight is doing some amazing work in the community supporting and helping people mentally. The effects of loneliness and social isolation have been highlighted following the coronavirus lockdown. Now more than ever is the time to keep up those strong social networks that act as a buffer against poor mental health.

“We would encourage any of our customers who are struggling to reach out for help, to use groups like Persona Insight.”

The service is run completely by volunteers and has supported over 100 people since its founding last year.

All attendees are offered a free care pack containing motivational and colouring books, tea bags, refreshments, hand sanitiser and support and guidance leaflets.

If you feel you could benefit from the services of PI simply drop into one of the groups meetups held in Runcorn every Monday from 2pm-4pm at Castlefields Community Centre and in Widnes every Tuesday at Nightstop‘s Community Hub ‘The Way Forward’ on Royal Avenue from 2pm-4pm.

PI is adhering fully to government guidance on social distancing and managing the risk of Covid-19.
