Jamie, 19, from Widnes recently completed his level 2 in electrical installation at Riverside College while working at Wilkinsons part-time prior to joining Halton Housing. Jamie is shadowing one of our qualified electricians working in customers’ homes and gaining experience. He started his apprenticeship in September 2020 and hopes to secure himself a permanent role within the business in the future.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship with Halton Housing?
“I chose an apprenticeship with Halton Housing as the business itself is based in and around my hometown. Learning a new trade with experienced tradesmen and edging myself towards becoming qualified is something I have wanted to do since I left school and I feel working for this housing association is the best move for me.”
What are the benefits and how is it helping you develop your career?
“Halton Housing allows me to learn lots of on-site experience in different environments, whether this is in empty homes or day to day repairs for our tenants, each day and each job is adding to my experience and knowledge of this trade on the whole, meaning in terms of my career I am certainly taking the correct steps in a job role I really enjoy.”
Why would you recommend apprenticeships to others?
“I would recommend this to others as being an apprentice offers you a great deal more experience than any other education route and when in situations like mine, this is what you need in order to pursue a career within this type of role.”
