Gas safety in your home

Why gas safety is so important

If your boiler, cooker and gas appliances aren’t checked on a regular basis, you are at risk of gas leaks and potentially even Carbon Monoxide poisoning. A leaking gas appliance can cause explosions.

Boilers, fires and cookers that aren’t well maintained can produce carbon monoxide gas. You can’t see, smell or taste it but its affects can be fatal.

Gas safety and what we do

Every year, as a registered landlord we must carry out an annual inspection of the gas appliances in all of our homes. We will check that everything is as it should be with your boiler, any pipework and gas appliances you have in your Halton Housing home.

This inspection of your home shouldn’t take longer than 30 minutes and is only carried out once a year. This inspection is vital for your safety and can even help you save money on your fuel bills.

What you need to do

Once a year you will need to let a member of our qualified Gas Team into your property to inspect your gas appliances, pipework and boiler. Usually, you will receive a letter informing you of the time and date of your next scheduled Gas Inspection several weeks before this inspection is due to take place. It is vital that you make a note of this appointment time and ensure you are home to allow one of our Gas Engineers entry into your home.

If you fail to allow one of our Gas Team members into your home to carry out your annual Gas Inspection you are in breach of your tenancy agreement with us. If you refuse to allow us access to your home to carry out this annual Gas Inspection, you are not only putting yourself at risk, you’re also putting your neighbors at risk. Anyone who fails to allow us entry into their property to carry out an annual Gas Inspection could run the risk of being evicted, as it’s a breach of your tenancy agreement.

If the appointment time and date doesn’t match your availability, it is vital that you let a member of our team know as soon as possible.
