Getting from A to B

Getting around isn’t always easy – especially when fuel costs seem to be on the rise every year. So what ways can you cut down on what you spend?

1) Walk

A simple solution, but one we are all guilty of forgetting. Not only do you save some money in the process, you get some fresh air and it can help you feel fitter too. Obviously walking isn’t the solution for all journeys, but imagine if you only had to fill up your tank every two weeks, instead of every week?

Why not visit the Living Streets website – it’s full of information for pedestrians, including information about National Walking Month.

We love this short clip from Do The Green Thing about the perks of walking to and from work.

2) On your bike

Cycling is a brilliant workout and, if you have a bike that you can dust off and use, why not? You can get from A to B a lot faster than walking, and you’re guaranteed some daily exercise. Just make sure you get a proper helmet and safety lights fitted.

If you need inspiration to get back on that bike, why not get involved with Bike Week?

3) Car-share

If you use a car to get to work, or do the school run, why not share with a colleague or friend? Whether you split the days, or one person drives and the other contributes towards fuel, it will certainly cut down on costs. And it’s better for the environment too.

4) Don’t knock public transport

Okay, so it isn’t the most convenient of choices, but public transport can be really cost-effective and can often get you where you need to be a lot faster than a car would. If you use the bus, train or tram regularly, you could save even more with a railcard or pass too.

The Halton Borough Council website has all of the information you need to know about local travel too.
